guidelines regarding sending files and general tips your

a few great hints to keep costs low :
- use one of the file formats
below
- ensure your files are cmyk, black/white or your specified
spot colours
- if the background/image runs over the edge (bleed)
include an extra 3mm over all affected sides of the page
- keep
the resolution over 300 dots per inch (dpi) at 100% size,
preferably 600dpi where text is involved
- embed all photos or ensure they
are enclosed with the artwork
- embed all fonts or ensure they
are either enclosed with the artwork or converted to outlines/curves
- supply
on cd - usb stick - email (up to 5mb) or use our ftp site
(over 5mb) - please phone for password and then click

file formats
there are many file formats around, below we have
listed the most popular with a brief description

- quark xpress : qxp : desktop publishing program
- corel : cdr : desktop publishing program
also a vector based program, suitable for spot
colour work
- indesign : indd : desktop publishing program
- pagemaker :
pmd : desktop publishing program
- photoshop : psd, tif, pdf,
jpg : a bitmap/raster program for photo editing
- illustrator
: ai, eps, pdf : a vector based program, particularly
suitable for spot
colour work
- pdf : ideal for digital
and large format orders, can be vector or
bitmap/raster files
- tif : a high
resolution, bitmap/raster file format, please do not
use compression
- eps : a vector
file format. can be split for spot colour
- jpeg : a bitmap/raster
file format, low in file size
- can affect
image quality.

- cmyk : the colours printers use to create full colour,
c: cyan (light blue), m:
magenta (pink), y: yellow
and k:
black
- pantone : references used by printers for spot
colour printing, available in coated, uncoated, matte,
metallic, pastel
- rgb : the colour screens are viewed in, r:
red, g:
green and b: blue - colours may change
when converted to cmyk
- greyscale : utilising a single ink to create tonal values
for photos and similar
- black : solid 100% black printing, usually
for text and line drawings
