environmental policy statement
at quickprint we have a strong commitment to the environment. we operate
a continual environmental assessment programme to look at ways of
minimising our damage whilst providing a quality product to all our
customers
our over-riding principle is - reduce, reuse, recycle
it is our policy to
1. comply with all relevant environmental legislation, regulations
and requirements
- for over 5 years our ryobi presses have run with
alcohol free dampening. although the use of alcohol (ipa) in
printing has not yet been outlawed in the uk, it is a major pollutant
2. reduce our use of natural resources
- the lights
within production areas have been replaced with energy efficient
lamps, we now have more lights producing a better working
environment using 25% less power
- central heating
and hot water temperatures are constantly reviewed helping
to attain lower fuel bills
3. reuse rather than dispose of resources whenever
possible
- dedicated readers are used to ensure that mistakes and
reprints
are kept to a minimum, erroneous printouts are reused for
internal non-critical printing, scribbling pads etc
- in todays
throw away age, the art of plate storage and reusage has
been somewhat forgotten. many of our jobs are repeat jobs
and with proper cleaning, preparation and storage,
plates are used
again and again
- new technology on press, semiautomatic
plate changing for improved register, automated blanket washing
are all examples
of new technology
that help us print jobs faster, more accurately
with less waste
- old computer and it equipment is re-purposed for
lighter duties
- our quoting system automatically produces orders
and delivery notes, transmitted via email whenever possible
4. recycling waste
- waste chemistry, paper, polythene, general
waste and printing plates are separated and removed by licenced
waste contractors
who pledge to recycle where ever possible
- inkjet and laser toner
cartridges emptied by ourselves and our customers are sent
away for recharging
5. give advice and offer environmentally friendly printing options
- wherever possible we encourage our clients to choose environmentally
friendly papers and finishes
- our house grades are all proven
to have high environmental standards with the absolute minimum
of chlorine bleaching
- anilox coatings are encouraged and are water
based in preference to environmentally damaging lamination
and uv based products
that do not biodegrade
6. use only couriers who have a commitment to cutting carbon emissions
- our
production department works closely with our reps and delivery
drivers in order to efficiently group deliveries where possible.
the chosen delivery vehicle is a smart car boasting unparalleled
co2 emissions. our company car policy encourages staff to use
public transport, to car share, to walk or to cycle
